Amazon Global Store launches for cross border tax paid shopping

No primary category set

Amazon have launched Amazon Global Store to enable sales to consumers from Amazon sites around the world.

In a similar manner to eBay’s Global Shipping Program, consumers can find and buy products from Amazon in the US on Amazon UK. Delivery takes place in as little as two days with goods customs cleared on your behalf, easy returns and UK customer service.

Amazon Global Store estimates the duty and taxes amount that will be due and add it to the amount you pay. You authorise Amazon US’s international carriers to pay this amount to the UK authorities on your behalf. If Amazon’s estimate for the Import Fees Deposit is greater than what is needed, you will be automatically refunded the difference to your original payment method. You will never be asked to pay more than the estimated amount.

The current categories being promoted in the Amazon Global Store are Books, Clothing, DVD, Luggage, Shoes & Bags, and Watches. It appears that currently only products on Amazon.com sold by Amazon Export Sales are available in the UK.

Amazon are putting a lot of work in to removing cross border trade barriers. Just a few days ago we heard that they’re buying stock from UK retailers to sell across the EU and now they’re promoting US goods to UK consumers.

Watch out for more Amazon announcements in the future as both of these programs are expanded. We’re predicting that at some point in the near future, if you place a listing on any Amazon site it will offer the potential for selling to an Amazon customer anywhere in the world.

  1. Great news for sellers. Since they look for ways to sell more, this new feature will result in increasing buying rate.
