In today’s troubled world, Amazon have taken a bit of a risk with their latest TV advert which features a vicar (a real one from Paddington Green Church, London) and an Imam (principal of the Muslim School, Oadby). Amazon say that they consulted the Church of England, the Muslim Council of Great Britain and the Christian Muslim Forum to ensure that they were respectful to both religions featured in the advert.
The two religious leaders are pictured as being friends who although from different religions have a common problem and both decide to give the other a present but end up buying each other the same thing.
There’s nothing in the advert which screams Christmas, but the message is pretty obvious, if you want to buy someone a thoughtful gift then Amazon is the place to buy it – preferably on Amazon Prime with one-click checkout.

Very good. We always give what we want ourselves. Thats why this year Mrs O is receiving a Flying Scotsman Hornby model railway.
As a muslim, I actually think its a super advert with a deeper meaning if you want to delve more into it or enjoy it simply as it is at face value!
as an atheist
its a great advert, with a good message
I rather enjoyed the advert.
It goes for subtle rather than over the top. 🙂
Amazon may now branch out into “PEACE DEALS”….they seemed to have hit the nail on the head
I know several Muslims who actually buy their children Christmas presents – they said that as the children go to school and mix with Christians, and they see the festive spirit all around, with shop windows full of stuff, it would be very unfair to deprive the younger children.
As the children get older, the Christmas theme is gradually phased out and it is explained to them why, but when younger, they get 2 times of present giving.
This is in a city which has a lot of Pakistani Muslims (Quite a few own or are employed in the wholesale trade), but no large concentrations in any one area.
It surprised me at first, as it was a few years before I knew any of them well enough to ask that sort of question without offending them, but I suppose it makes sense, and shows that a bit of compromise doesn’t hurt anyone.
