Amazon Music Unlimited launches in the UK

Amazon is making a further foray into the world of music, extending the value of the Prime proposition, and the Amazon Echo/Alexa offering: Amazon Music Unlimited has launched in the UK.

Amazon’s Music Unlimited offers 40 million tracks and also “curated playlists”. On the family plan, it’s a similar offering to Apple Music, Google Play Music and Spotify. You can get a family plan of six accounts for £14.99 a month.

Prime members receive a discount for annual subscriptions and will pay £149 for a year. Individual accounts are £7.99 per month or £79 a year for Prime members. Or £9.99 a month. On all the services listening is ad-free and you can download tracks to use offline.

And they say that with Alexa you can ask it to play music by quoting a lyric, asking for a music genre or instructing it to, say, “play top rock songs from 1982”.

The aptly named Steve Boom, vice president of Amazon Music, says of the launch: “We’ve been thrilled with customer reaction to the launch of Amazon Music Unlimited in the US last month and we’re excited to quickly bring the service to customers in the UK. Starting today, Amazon Music Unlimited offers our UK customers playlists and stations curated by our music experts in the UK, featuring leading British and international artists – we think customers are going to love it.”

  1. £9.99 a month for non Prime members. So, the same price as all the other streaming services. Anyone would think the market was rigged.
