I sent items 1st class signed for to the same home address last Friday and Monday.
Both were delivered late but the issue I want to flag up is that neither successful delivery is yet to be confirmed through Royal Mail’s consumer or business tracking web pages.
All Royal Mail tells me is that they were posted.
Royal Mail Signed For is an expensive untracked service, just giving delivery confirmation and an illegible signature.
Before privatisation, customers received compensation of up to 100 times 1st class post (that would now be £64) for ordinary mail.
The regulator was pressurised to waive this and reduce it to £20. Effectively, you are now paying an insurance premium for Signed For to give you £50 compensation.
Royal Mail, despite being a private company, still bears the Royal Insignia and still has crown immunity from prosecution, however bad its negligence.

Does them all (pretty much), we use it a lot as it gets info from post companies around the world where the RM tracking just gives you ‘your item has been passed to the delivery company in ******’ and that’s just about all you get most of the time.
A great summary, thank you.
I also recommend the following site as you can save parcels to your account and get emailed updates from both the Royal Mail and the international partner they are using (e.g. Correos for Spain)
