Amazon does have some imaginative ideas and, when it comes to marketing gimmicks to encouraging purchases, what they call the Treasure Truck is pretty unusual but rather good fun.
So far it has predominantly been operating in Amazon’s home town of Seattle in Washington state, USA. But it has also been seen in Las Vegas and there is speculation that it will be launching in other US cities. And now it looks like it’s coming to London too. So what is the Treasure Truck?
Amazon bills it as an “ice cream truck for adults.” It’s an actual truck laden with deals and if you want to take advantage then you’ll receive an alert via the app if it’s down your way. Or you can browse for it to see whatever bargain it’s peddling on a particular day. It visits different parts of town and example deals include a paddle board for roughly 25% of RRP and porterhouse steaks. Once the goods are sold that’s it. There are no more but you can make returns in the usual Amazon way.

The potential development was spotted by eagle eyed snoops who noticed Amazon is hiring for marketing and business managers in London for a scheme that “offers customers a different way to shop in both the digital and physical worlds” that will build “brand loyalty through physical vehicles.” That does sound like the Treasure Truck
Obviously, this is a gimmick that is aimed at increasing Amazon App usage and adoption but it also stands as another example of how Amazon does like to approach these challenges in unusual and kooky ways. We’ll see what happens if it does come to London.
