As of next week you’ll now be able to access Amazon’s Alexa via the Amazon app on your Apple iPhone. It’s also believed that they’re working on a similar function for Android handsets. Find out more about the new functions here.
Inside the Amazon app, you’ll find a microphone icon at the top of the screen and you can use that to access Alexa. And via the app you’ll be able to use Alexa in all the same ways you can when you access it by your Echo device. You can download the Amazon app here.
It’s not a direct challenge to Apple’s own Siri system that you can activate immediately using your voice across the panoply of Apple devices. You’ll need to power up the Amazon app before you can talk to Alexa. Whilst that is an inconvenience for Alexa devotees, it’s still a big triumph for Amazon to get Alexa onto a whole new platform.
