Etsy streamline purchasing with guest checkout and buy it now

Etsy introducing two new updates to checkout: guest checkout and a buy it now button.

Guest Checkout

Etsy’s Guest Checkout will enable anyone to browse, add items to their cart, and make purchases on Etsy without creating an account. If you accept payments through Etsy Payments or PayPal your items will be eligible for guest checkout. Guest checkout orders will appear in your shop alongside orders from signed-in Etsy members.

Etsy are providing a number of tools to manage guest orders

  • If you’re eligible for Etsy’s Seller Protection Policy you’ll also be covered for purchases made through guest checkout.
  • You’ll see orders from guests in your Shop Manager alongside all your other orders.
  • Guests will receive an email receipt and shipping notifications. They will also be able to customize orders during checkout. Guests will not be able to leave reviews for their purchases.
  • You can use Conversations to message guests. When they reply via email, you’ll see their response in your Conversations inbox.

Buy it now

Etsy introduced a buy it now button for buyers and sellers in the United States back in 2015. It enables a customer to quickly buy an item without adding it to their shopping basket first. Etsy will now roll the buy it now button internationally, shoppers will see a buy it now button on your listings, regardless of their location or the location of your shop.

The button appears on desktop, mobile web, and in the Etsy app, in addition to the add to cart button. Shoppers who use the buy it now button will have the option to review their purchase, including the shipping costs and taxes they’ll pay, before completing it.

Orders placed using the buy it now button will look the same in your Shop Manager as items purchased using the cart.

  1. Chris,
Thanks for the straightforward info. Sounds like it will make shopping easier for buyers and hopefully their security and fraud prevention is as strong as Paypal’s.
Is it true that sellers who have already paid for their listings but do not set up Etsy Payments will not be offered refunds for those charges?
    Thanks! 🙂
