One of the most striking things for me about attending events and pop-up venues at the recent Brighton Festival was how card taking handsets using a phone or tablet are now becoming more prevalent. Increasingly, as cash becomes less used and contactless is considered the norm, it’s vital for SMEs to take card payments and often the traditional means don’t pass muster any more.
The old ways need plugging in to a network, are expensive, inflexible and not mobile.
Services like iZettle (or it could be PayPal Here or Square or any of the others) make it pretty darn easy to take payment by card as long as you have wifi or a mobile internet connection. They’re also surprisingly cheap and merchants get settlement too pretty swiftly. Over the past few weeks I’ve paid by card at a pop-up bar, at a craft fair and also at an artist’s open house using one or other of the services.
So if you haven’t taken the plunge yet and want to take payments on the move, this offer may be of interest to you. Currently iZettle is offering card taking contactless handsets for half price. That’s £25 plus VAT. You can find out more about the offer here. And don’t forget other services are available.
