eBay Sellers report problems with PayPal refunds

Several Tamebay readers have been in touch on Thursday to say that they are unable to issue refunds to eBay buyers via PayPal. And that’s not great news when you consider customer service from a seller point of view and defects. If you are in a dispute with a buyer, a delayed refund doesn’t help.

There is no indication regarding how widespread the problem is. It may well be a limited issue. But seeing as PayPal customer support is confirming that it is real, you may well be impacted. As far as we can see there is no official announcement from Paypal or an acknowledgement of a problem at all. Bad show

In one email to an eBay seller trying to issue a refund that we’ve seen, PayPal support have said: “there is an issue with our system at the moment which has affected our ability to refund transactions. Our Technical Support Team are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.” There is is no timescale offered regarding resolution.

We asked PayPal for comment on Thursday afternoon, and had a chat with their press office, and thus far they haven’t given us clarification or comment. We’ll add it should we receive anything.

I reported this yesterday morning – at that point they were denying it was a big problem and saying a few accounts “might” be affected – no fix time, no advice on what happened if customers opened dispute on ebay . they advised sending customer a payment – when I asked what happens if they still open a dispute… no solution.
    We had an item lost, (only £8.99) customer wanted refund – we agreed and then had to send a note saying – we will, soon, when PayPal lets us – from customer point of view It looks like a seller scam ?

  2. I am having same problem. The seller has been requesting me to check my PayPal account for last 3-4days. My account is not showing any refund so far.

  3. Yes we have had a few over the last few weeks where we get the same errors which they eventually fix. Does frustrate customers certainly, luckily we have had understanding buyers so far.

  4. it’s the system doing this it’s causing so many troubles the do called AI computer detects suspicious activities the algorithm system is a shambles

  5. I have had this problem for months since they split also when click to see PayPal transaction off eBay does nothing

  6. Similar issue, delays in refunds however Paypal manage them & the ebay help process is pretty good only if you have paid via Paypal otherwise non helpful & I’m receiving my refunds progressively taking up to 30 days or therabout in some cases for international orders / returns.
