Mobile payments provider iZettle has revealed it will enable users to make local mobile payments and send invoices through its point of sale app.
iZettle CEO and co-founder Jacob de Geer says “We’re seeing an increasingly fragmented world of payments, as countries adopt new technologies in different ways and at varying rates. To not lose out on sales, all businesses must cater to their consumers’ specific payment preferences. And today that means local mobile payments in many countries. This is an important step in delivering on our promise of democratizing commerce and leveling the playing field for small businesses. We’re constantly looking for new ways to make their working life easier – never missing a sale or being able to make informed business decisions are of course key for our users’ growth.”
The service is free of charge and enabled mobile payments by the Pay By Bank app in the UK, Swedish Swish, Norwegian Vipps and MobilePay in Denmark, Finland and Norway. Swish is a mobile payment service for instant transfers used by more than half of the Swedish population. Vipps is Swish’s Norwegian equivalent, used by more than half of the Norwegian population. MobilePay is a Danish app installed on 9 out of 10 smartphones in the country and also popular in Finland and Norway. Pay by Bank app is a similar service in the UK, which allows shoppers to pay for goods and services on mobile devices, with payments directly made from their bank account but seemingly not widely used.
