The Spanish Government and Amazon are teaming up. The idea is that Spanish SMEs of an agricultural bent can take their produce to a wider audience in Spain, UK and Germany via Amazon. The aim seems to be about creating an online farmers’ market.
The Spanish government’s export promotion agency, ICEX, has launched the specialist storefront to benefit Spanish producers on Amazon.
It’s billed as “Foods and Wines from Spain”. And that sounds like a very good thing in any situation to Tamebay. Delicious hams, olive oils, veg, fruits and cheese. Redolent flavours and exciting produce. This looks like a store that will bring us all those tremendous things we love about Spain. Pass the anchovies. Send the Manchego cheese.
We all know that Spain is a fantastic country that produces amazing groceries and unctuous wines too. It’s entirely correct that Spain should be celebrated via Amazon and ensure that we can all get our hands on fabulous artisan goods online.
Marisa Poncela is Spain’s secretary of commerce and has said that now 1500 items from 170 Spanish companies are available in the new Amazon store. That sounds like a decent handful of producers. We hope more will be joining up soon.
And it seems to us that Amazon could do more to embrace local. Spain does make many magnificent things. But so many localised markets in Britain do too. Amazon would do wise to have a Wiltshire service. A Sussex shop. That Scottish selection. Cumbrian collations. Yorkshire? Yes! Etc etc… name it. Every locality makes a marvellous thing.
Could local be part of Amazon’s future? Do you make something that should be sold on Amazon?

Hi
Thanks for this great post. As a coach and consultant, this is something I teach my clients, think local, and sell to the world. There are so many items that are produced on a local basis that can be shipped in both the home country and exported.
