Hellenic Post new customs procedures may cause delays

If you’re posting parcels to Greece you should bear in mind that there are currently delays due to the implementation of new customs procedures.

Since the end of June 2017, Hellenic Post have been applying customs procedures under a new memorandum of understanding with the Greek customs authorities. The new procedures impact both domestic and international mail due to the new operating regime.

Long term, Hellenic Post will be acting as a direct representative of customs authorities. The new customs procedures, including the use of new information systems, will facilitate and improve customs clearance time. In the short term, they warn that the implementation of these new procedures will require an adjustment period. It is reasonable to assume that, during this adjustment period, there may be some delays in the handling of inbound postal dispatches and delivery of items subject to customs clearance.

If you sell on your own website, naturally all you need do is keep customers informed. However on marketplace it may be worth making it their problem by using services such as eBay’s GSP or Amazon FBA.
