Amazon is developing the scope and reach of its Echo devices and their ambition is to make the service available wherever you are. That could be in your car, home or workplace. The notion seems to be that you can access Alexa via a variety of devices without any problems.
David Limp, Amazon VP in charge of Echo, says: “Voice control in the home will be ubiquitous. Kids today will grow up never knowing a day they couldn’t talk to their houses. We don’t think of Echo as a consumer electronics device. It’s a service that we’re constantly trying to improve. We learn what our customers like, and would like to do better.”
But he does also acknowledges that it’s not yet perfect when it comes to starting up: “Setting up your smart home is still just too hard. It can take up to 15 steps to do something as simple as set up a lightbulb.”
Amazon Echo has performed very well since it launched about three years ago. Tens of millions of household in the US and Europe utilise the device that offers easy access to search radio, weather, news and voice calls.
And now it’s reported Amazon will start selling a smaller, cheaper version of the original Echo distinct from the Dot. The new designs will feature fabric and wood veneer. And also look out for the new flagship device called the Echo Plus that Amazon promises will work instantly with dozens of smart home devices. The internet of things revolution continues and increasingly these smart devices will interact and control, those things such as locks, lights and the heating remotely.
