GDPR compliance is something that UK businesses, however small, will be required to deal with when new EU data protection rules come into force in May 2018. They regard how you store and deal with the holding of personal information. To get an overview of the changes, check out this previous post: What do you need to know about GDPR?
And with the deadline approaching, there are some concerns that smaller businesses aren’t prepared for the changes. So the UK Information Commissioner has taken steps to help and has launched a special phone hotline to help. You can find out the details and the number on the ICO website. There are also many useful resources available too on that site.
Information commissioner Elizabeth Dunham says: “All organisations have to get ready for the new data protection rules, but we recognise that the 5.4 million small organisations in the UK face particular challenges.
Small organisations want to be ready when the new law comes into force in May 2018, but they often struggle to know where to start. They may have less time and money to invest in getting it right and are less likely to have compliance teams, data protection officers or legal experts to advise them what to do.
Our new phone service and all the other resources already on our website plus even more advice and guidance yet to come will help steer small businesses through the new law.”
How prepared for GDPR compliance are you? It seems to us that there isn’t much to worry about if you’re already diligent and respectful with buyer data. But there’s no harm in double checking so the ICO hotline is a useful initiative.
