Massive fee hikes on Amazon Mexico

No primary category set

Over on Amazon Mexico has announced that there will be significant increases to referral fees (selling commissions).

The only good news really is that the new higher fees won’t be coming into force until the 5th February 2018 so you will be able to trade through the festive period on the Mexican marketplace under the old fees schedule.

You can find the full details of the changes here. The information is in Spanish.

Some of the changes are quite eye-watering. In some categories, the rates are doubling or even, in the case of Toys & Games, tripling. Amazon is positioning this change as an end to the promotion fees they employed as they launched the marketplace and established it in Mexico.

It would be interesting to know if there are many Tamebay readers who trade on Amazon Mexico. It’s not as tricky as it might sound. If you get all registered and set up to sell on Amazon.com you can automatically sell too on the sites in Canada and Mexico.

And if you have goods lodged with FBA (fulfilment by Amazon) in the States these can also be despatched to buyers in Mexico.

Mexico is an interesting ecommerce prospect with a fast growing economy and increasing internet penetration. But with these fee rises, Amazon may now seem less attractive a proposaition for merchants.
