Marketplace Overview

ManoMano is a European online marketplace specialising in DIY & gardening supplies. It has reported that in 2017 it enjoyed global turnover of €250m and that’s an increase of 180% year on year. In the UK turnover doubled over the course of the year.

Co-founder Christian Raisson says that the UK operation has beaten all targets and expectations saying: “It demonstrates the real need for digital pure-players in the DIY and garden industry”. In September 2017 the company raised €60 million in a Series C funding round led by growth equity firm General Atlantic. That money has fuelled expansion. The UK marketplace opened in 2016.

ManoMano is currently operating in France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, Italy and Germany and has a global network of 2,000 vendors and a selection of 1.6m different products. They don’t compete with sellers and sell no goods themselves and merely host the marketplace.

Seller registration and requirements

You must apply to sell on the marketplace but it’s not explicit about what the requirements are to qualify. But you can find out more on this page and apply.

As they say on the website: “In order to uphold the high standards we strive for, we select our merchants based on precise criteria. If you wish to join us and distribute your products through ManoMano, please contact us and introduce your company to: [email protected]. Our experts will then assess your request and the possibility of a partnership.”

There is no application fee. But there is a month subscription of €35 (excluding VAT) to sell on the marketplace but you can cancel at any time. You will also need to pay commissions on each sale. Commissions on sales vary on goods sold depending on category.

Product listings and fulfilment

ManoMano is integrated with a number of the multichannel software providers including Lengow and ChannelAdvisor, so if you’re using such a system then it’s relatively easy to get your goods onto ManoMano after you’re approved. Sellers fulfil orders by themselves. To see the marketplace commitments to buyers, check out this page. Buyer satisfaction is a crucial concern.

Payments are processed using Adyen (which will soon be powering payments on eBay) and funds are held in escrow until shoppers are satisfied. Sellers must offer returns and refunds with a 14 day window.

Tamebay’s take on ManoMano

As we have reported, ManoMano is doing well and developing a significant presence. It’s well funded and sales are growing. It does seem increasingly likely that specialist marketplaces honed to specific verticals, and expertly curated, are the future. The future for ManoMano looks bright.
