A year after it first appeared in July 2017, Amazon today announced Hub by Amazon, a delivery solution for apartments that brings convenience and consistency to the delivery experience, is available for installation across the United States.
Hub by Amazon appears to already be relatively successful as Amazon say that over 500,000 residents already have access to the Hub by Amazon with thousands more gaining access each month as new Hubs are installed in apartment communities across the country. You’ll find them everywhere from from New York City to San Francisco.
Basically an Amazon Locker solution installed at an apartment block, the main difference is that Hub by Amazon is only available to residents of the building but will accept deliveries from any retailer and carrier, not just Amazon.

With Hub by Amazon, apartment residents no longer need to wait for property staff to deliver a package or adjust their schedules for limited pickup windows at front desks. Property owners and managers also benefit as it eliminates package tasks regularly handled by property staff, decluttering lobbies and allowing onsite staff time for other priorities.
It would appear that the upfront cost are in the region of $10,000 to $20,000, but over the course of several years that could easily be cost justified by savings on staff salaries. For Amazon, it ensures that their own deliveries are made easier to apartments where Hub by Amazon in installed and get’s their branding right on consumers doorsteps. At the same time it leverages their investment in Amazon lockers by utilising exactly the same technology.
