Amazon Turkey launched today

No primary category set

Today Amazon launched a new country site in Turkey with 1,000 local Turkish businesses already listing on the Amazon Turkey marketplace, in addition of course to Amazon Retail products available on the site.

Amazon.com.tr features a vast selection of products across 15 categories, such as Books, Consumer Electronics, Sports, Outdoor, Tools, Toys, Home Improvement, and Baby, including products from over one thousand local Turkish businesses.

Millions of products offered to Turks

Amazon is offering a wide variety of products from local Turkish brands as well as big brand favorites. Customers can find a selection of deals with great prices on products like Paşabahçe Midas Tea Set, Samsung Galaxy J7, Fitbit Alta HR, Regal LED TV, and many more on the Amazon.com.tr deals page.

Amazon.com.tr proposition for Turkish businesses – big and small

Amazon have gone out of their way to include their latest ‘big and small’ tagline in their marketing. They have just launched a campaign to position themselves as an alternative to eBay with Amazon Storefronts in the US as a ‘big collection of small businesses’.

“Amazon has invested billions of dollars in infrastructure and technical services that help small and medium-sized businesses reach new customers around the world. With the launch of Amazon.com.tr, Turkish businesses can easily sell their products to customers across Turkey through our store with no product-listing fee. Amazon offers businesses access to simple listing tools, 24/7 online seller support, open and transparent selling conditions and pricing, and reports and analytics to help them grow.”

Should you sell on Amazon Turkey?

It is not yet known if Amazon Turkey will be considered a European site and be included in Unified European Amazon accounts to make it easy for UK, German, French, Italian and Spanish merchants to sell on the site. The alternative is that it be considered an Asian marketplace – Istanbul does of course straddle Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. An early encouraging indication is that the ‘Sell on Amazon Turkey’ page has the ‘Amazon Services Europe’ banner at the head of the page so in time it could become an easy country to expand to.

For European sellers, considering selling on Amazon Turkey may well be initially driven by the availability of translation services and you would definitely benefit from having a Turkish speaker in house for managing your Turkish sales.

The next consideration will be how quickly multichannel management providers add Amazon Turkey as an integration to make day to day managing of sales and inventory on the new Amazon country site.

Finally and perhaps most important, sellers will need to familiarise themselves with regulation and taxation issues that selling in Turkey will present. Turkey is not yet in the EU so it will be a totally new tax and regulation regime for sellers to get to grips with.

One Response

  1. Amazon UK and Amazon TR are always and forever and ever after and forever and furthermore and more welcome to both the UK and Turkey much more than anywhere else in and around this remarkable universe between the UK and Turkey as greatly appreciated as possible and forever and ever after as the Amazon TR with the Amazon UK.
Turkey needs to become in the EU not to get to grips with the international world and the EU and the US and becoming in the EU Customs Union doesn’t require Turkey, very unfortunately for Turkey, to get the grips and tax and regulations agreement with the Amazon and with the US.
