The eBay.com marketplace will be making some changes to how it charges for sales on the eBay Motors section of the site.
As they say in their announcement, which you can peruse in full here:
Starting October 22, 2018, the 21-day duration option for fixed-price listings will no longer be available for the following eBay Motors categories:
- Cars & Trucks
- Motorcycles
- Boats
- Powersports
- Other Vehicles & Trailers
Instead, we will offer a new 30-day listing duration option for fixed-price listings in these categories, which will cost $50, and will be available for sellers on eBay Motors starting on October 22. This price change applies to listings on the US site only.
– eBay Announcement
As it stands right now, this change is only applicable to the eBay.com, United States, marketplace and it won’t impact merchants anywhere else in the world. But that may change. We will keep you posted.
The second hand car market, which eBay has been surprisingly successful within on both sides of the Atlantic, remains a critical part of their revenue and appeal. But it does rather seem that eBay has failed innovate the offering over the years and a tiny tinker like this isn’t going to butter many parsnips. It is certainly time for eBay to completely revamp their offering and protect their position in this lucrative vertical.
