Amazon rolls out augmented reality app feature for Black Friday

Amazon has rolled out new ‘AR View’ augmented reality app feature just in time’ for Black Friday sale to allow shoppers view products in their home space.

But, the new 3-D tool appears to be in an early release stage as a couple of us have tried to detect the feature that’s nowhere to be found on the app.

Amazon says that the new tool is designed to give shoppers a piece of mind on thousands of AR-enabled products before purchasing them. Customers can check the selected items from all angles by tapping on AR View option available in the camera icon on the left-hand side of the search bar. They can view products in situ from a selection of product categories including top picks, electronics, living room, kitchen and tables.

The feature offers a seamless experience, which allows customers to use one finger to 360 rotate an item and two resize a product to find the perfect fit.

To get hold of the augmented reality app, Amazon says that shoppers need to have the latest version of its app and use enabled device. However, this contrasts with LifeHacker’s statement, which suggests that app only works on Android devices as Google launched ARCore 1.0 software, mobile camera update, last week which limits the app use on various gadgets. This means that shoppers who own Google’s Pixel phones and Samsung’s S7, S8, and Note 8 devices won’t be able to enjoy the benefits of the app, in comparison to LG V30, OnePlus 5, and Asus Zenfone AR holders.

Is Amazon struggling to live up to its own promises

This announcement comes as we recently reported on Amazon losing a quarter of trillion dollars from their market cap. Does this suggest that the marketplace is focusing on retrieving what it has lost, with promises on the ‘biggest ever’ Black Friday sale and new augmented reality app feature that seems not to work? But, will we see Amazon live up to those promises?
