Amazon announced this week that their Prime members would soon be able to choose an in-garage delivery via the Key app.
Amazon say that the new service will be available to choose exclusively on Amazon.com in Q2 2019, which covers the months of April, June and May. Amazon Prime members who reside in “one of 37 cities and surrounding areas” in the US are set to benefit from the solution first. Shoppes can subscribe to Amazon email notification to find about the exact launch date of in-garage deliveries.
“We launched Key as a delivery service exclusively for Prime members, but it has evolved to focus on access solutions for all customers. We are excited to add Key for Garage as an option for remote monitoring, access and Prime deliveries. Launching with Chamberlain Group, the leader in the space, ensures that our customers will have the best possible experience whether they are checking to see if the kids reached home safely, making sure the that the garage door is closed while at work or on the road, or choosing the most convenient and secure way to have their Prime packages delivered at home.”
-Rohit Shrivastava, general manager of Key by Amazon“A self-contained extension of the home, the garage offers a convenient destination for delivery hurdles such as potential theft and missed deliveries. We are proud to collaborate with Amazon on this game-changing in-garage delivery initiative. Our leadership in garage access control and superior network of retailers and installing dealers, combined with Amazon’s innovation, means Prime members now have a new secure delivery option for all of their purchases, and all customers can enjoy complete control over their garage, one of the home’s primary access points.”

Security promise
Customers who want to enable garage access need to own one of two keys. One, allowing the customers to open and close their garage with myQ Smart Garage Hub, which comes at a starting price of $79.99 (£62.84). This controller allows customers to monitor real-time alerts when their garage door opens or closes. Second, myQ-connected Chamberlain or LiftMaster both serving as garage door openers for the price of £211.48 or LiftMaster Wi-Fi garage door opener, which average price point ranges between £154 and £225. Shoppers can also get a piece of mind by watching their in-garage delivery occur live via Cloud Cam ($119.99, £94.29)
The marketplace have initially introduced their Amazon Key in 2017 to allow couriers to open shoppers’ house doors and drop off their parcels. Amazon have now extended the usability of the key for in-garage deliveries. The initiative will not only see parcel theft prevention but also enable customers to receive other non-Amazon parcels.
