eBay and Record Store Day, an event showcasing independent record shops have teamed up to support brick-and-mortar record merchants in the US by promoting them on eBay’s Authorized Seller Network.

The collaboration will see eBay partnering with stores which bring music and culture to their local communities in the US. Authorized Record Store Day sellers will get an exposure to a global audience of 179m active buyers.

Shoppers will discover a broader selection of vinyl on eBay with the added confidence they’re supporting local small businesses across the US by shopping Record Store Day pledged stores and titles.

“Interest in vinyl continues to soar among today’s music lovers, and the category is more popular than ever on eBay. We remain dedicated to supporting independent retailers who bring music and culture to their local communities, and this partnership allows us to expand their reach to a global audience.”
– Sam Bright, vice president of merchandising, eBay North America

Record Store Day began in 2008 as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding more than 1,200 independently-owned record stores across the US.

Record Store Day continues to expand and look for ways to support indie stores year-round and working with marketplaces like eBay help us bring growth opportunities and easy-to-use tools to the indie businesses that are at the centre of what we do.
– said Carrie Colliton, co-founder, Record Store Day

For more than 20 years, eBay has partnered with small businesses in a bid to give business owners the tools and global platform to launch, grow and scale their businesses. This partnership will give shoppers a dedicated place to shop for genuine goods without apprehension of purchasing a fraudulent product.

  1. Why not the UK? Why just physical stores? I had six record shops here in London which I closed several years ago as the High Street became unwelcoming and landlords took what councils left! and am only online. There are several big serious professional record dealers online who do not have a record shop. However, I am surprised at this moved as I also viewed RSD as a way to get buyers into a shop physically (I participated in the first year promotion) This collaboration seems to be RSD shooting themselves in the foot (feet?)
