eBay Plus Australia update – eBay funds express delivery for sellers

No primary category set

From the 1st of April 2020, eBay Plus Australia will require more stringent criteria for eBay sellers’ products to to gain or retain the eBay Plus badge. This will include offering express delivery to Metro areas, but eBay will fund some of the additional shipping costs. eBay say that these new requirements ensure that they are helping sellers meet retail standards and continuing to bring buyers to you.

New eBay Plus Australia Requirements

  1. Offer 0-1 day handling time
  2. Have an express postage option
  3. Upload tracking on orders with the eBay Plus badge

eBay Plus members in metro areas will be automatically upgraded to free express delivery on eBay Plus listings. To support sellers who are providing this top level of service, eBay will fund up to AUS$4 of the express postage upgrade cost on these orders. eBay will apply the contribution automatically at the point of transaction, and for a lot of sellers they say that this will cover the cost of the express upgrade. There are bound to be a few complaints from sellers who suddenly receive orders with express shipping where AUS$4 doesn’t cover the upgrade, but then it’s not obligatory to participate in eBay Plus Australia.

This is interesting as funding an upgrade to express postage is something many sellers in other parts of the world might want to see. Indeed it also flies in the face of eBay’s reluctance to highlight listings in the UK that offer an express shipping option and many sellers would quite happily charge buyers and pay for fast shipping if eBay would only offer a search option so that buyers could find it. Time and time again I’ve been told that buyers on eBay UK don’t want express shipping (although they obviously love it on Amazon UK) and hence eBay don’t see it as a priority. Obviously Aussies must be keen to receive goods quickly and eBay Plus Australia is rapidly evolving… probably in an attempt to keep the relatively newly launched Amazon and Amazon Prime offering at bay.
