Coronavirus lockdown pivot from workshops to Etsy selling

The UK lockdown has been devastating for many businesses which reply on in person events or transactions as activities instantly came to a halt. That’s what happened to Lyndsey Harvey, who started her own Blooms By Lyndsey business seven years ago, delivering craft workshops from her studio in Devon and craft parties at venues and homes across the South West.

The lockdown and social distancing guidelines cancelled all of these events for the time being, but Lyndsey, in common with many small businesses, has pivoted to find different ways to adapt and keep in touch with her customers as the pandemic unfolded.

In addition to producing free craft tutorial videos to encourage people to get making in their own homes, Lyndsey has seen an increase in craft kit sales from her Etsy shop as people look to stay busy and learn new skills.

But while Lyndsey’s innovative approach has kept her close to her customers and given people a hobby they can safely pursue in their own homes, getting the craft kits to recipients has proved to be a challenge in itself with most travel banned and social distancing in place. Lyndsey recognised how delivery lockers could help connect the dots while sticking to guidelines and discovering InPost had a local locker decided this was the best way forward.

“My nearest locker is outside Morrisons in Teignmouth, so I can do a parcel drop-off when I am doing my weekly shop, which removes the need for unnecessary travel and ensures I’m not putting anyone at risk by having to process my parcels face-to-face. I’ve been able to track all my parcels, keep my customers updated with when they will get them and many have received them quicker than expected.”

Lyndsey isn’t sure when she’ll be able to conduct her workshops and events in person again, but for the time being is enjoying a new way of teaching until it is safe to resume. Thanks to InPost’s contact-free delivery lockers, she can keep connected to customers until that point and hopefully beyond.
