Coronavirus updates for August

No primary category set

There are a few Coronavirus updates to take note of this month which include changes to furlough, meal discounts coming into action, and the latest news on Coronavirus restrictions.

Furlough Scheme changes:

From August, employers will be asked to start help fund the cost of furloughed workers with ‘a new taper requiring employers to contribute ‘modestly’ to furloughed salaries. The government will pay 80% of wages up to a cap of £2,500 for workers on furlough. Employers will be required to pay ER NICs and pension contributions – for the average claim, this represents 5% of the gross employment costs the employer would have incurred had the employee not been furloughed.

SEISS Grants:

SEISS Grants and claims for the second and final round can be claimed from the 17th of August 2020 when the online service will be available.

Just because you claimed in the first round of SEISS Grants doesn’t mean you should or have to claim in the second round. Equally, if you didn’t claim in the first round but your self employment profits have now dried up then you can still claim in the second round of SEISS Grants.

Eat out to help out:

To get customers back into restaurants and pubs the government will give everyone an Eat Out to Help Out 50% off meal deal. It will cover a maximum £10 of per head off food and non-alcoholic drinks funded by the government throughout August on Mondays to Wednesdays. All businesses serving sit down meals will be able to register for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme with fast reimbursement for discounts paid into their bank accounts by the Government.

You can now find out where you will be able to use the 50% meal discount on the .Gov website.

The latest updates:

Shortly after the introduction of a 14-day mandatory quarantine for people traveling to the UK from Spain, Luxembourg has also been taken off the travel exemption list, requiring travelers to self isolate for 2 weeks. This article written last week gives some insight into what these new rules mean for your business.

Local restriction updates:

As residents in Liverpool are asked to stop visiting other households in the hope it will get ahold of the spike in infections, Leicester prepares for the re-opening of pubs and restaurants as their restrictions are lifted. From recent news, there is still so much uncertainty looming over the country and no city or town is safe.

    ,
simply ludicrous, a known high risk of contagion.
every chance of being first on the re lock down list

  2. Am going out for my Anniversary meal tonight and it looks like the place has the Eat out to help out .
I did drive by it the other day in the evening it was so dead and the place is normally packed. I think it is bad the likes of MacDonald’s gets this where it is the independents that really need it.
The bars are also worried in case Sturgeon shuts them down again got my first drink out in months on Saturday. One bar took our names etc another did not, one seemed to have measures in place like screens on the bars the other was jammed packed mainly of 20s. who could not care, it was not the most comfortable experience.
Talking to the owners they are really worried and do not think they will be able to cope with a second lockdown.
The Greens Grants look like another Tory Racket. The wife deals with a lot of contractors who are saying it is the select Few on the list with vastly overblown prices, I was going to use it for my tenants house but not going to bother now.
We got a lot of furloughed at my driving job doing second jobs right now awaiting their fate, one who works for BA knows he is a total goner.
