Mirvac Retail have announced their innovative new online marketplace and contactless pick-up service introduced to their centres in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. Consumers can purchase everyday items from popular local long-term retailers, and pick them up at a contactless drive-thru via ‘click and collect’.

The Essentials Express service has started operating in Melbourne offering dozens of fresh food items and curated packages of products from local retailers and is claimed to bring together a bespoke technology solution with MPC retailers and their sought-after product. The service was created in just one week through the collaboration of their teams and now provides shoppers in the area with a customised, safe and curated local shopping experience at a time of enforced social distancing.

Many supermarkets and retailers are looking at how they can create online marketplaces and implement them with their current contactless delivery services to provide consumers with more options. As we navigate through the new digital world solutions like these will help businesses continue to thrive and consumers get the things they need in a safe way. It would be interesting to see how other retail parks and shopping centres could take this approach to provide shops and businesses with an online reach. Could we see this on a larger scale in the future, catering to a wider audience opposed to only the local area?

“Key to this has been a willingness of our retail partners involved to be agile and rapid in the rollout of the Essentials Express. Our retailers have been very enthusiastic, and we are thrilled to deliver a curated and collaborative, online solution so they can to continue to serve their customers.”

“Importantly for Mirvac Retail, it is our opportunity to support smaller and locally loved retailers who may not have the scale and resources traditionally to adapt their operating models and implement these type of technology solutions,”
– Kelly Miller, General Manager, Retail at Mirvac
