USPS announce 2021 price changes

No primary category set

USPS have recently announced price changes that will take effect on January 24, 2021. The approved prices will see an approximately 1.8% increase for First-Class Mail and 1.5% for other categories. These new prices will help keep the Postal Service competitive while providing the agency with needed revenue.

Proposed price changes:

  • Letters additional ounce(s) 20 cents (currently 15 cents)
  • Letters (metered 1 oz.) 51 cents (currently 50 cents)
  • Domestic Postcards 36 cents (currently 35 cents)
  • Letters (1 oz.) 55 cents (no change)
  • Flats (1 oz.) $1 (no change)

The Postal Service has some of the lowest letter-mail postage rates in the industrialized world and continues to offer a great value in shipping. Unlike some other shippers, the Postal Service does not add surcharges for fuel, residential delivery or regular Saturday delivery.

The price changes will be reviewed by the PRC before being scheduled to take effect and follows USPS’s recent temporary price rise on parcels due to kick in on the 18th of October and apply until the 27th of December 2020.

“This time-limited adjustment will increase prices for our commercial customers in line with competitive practices without impacting customers at the retail level. In doing this, the Postal Service is protecting the retail consumer during a vulnerable economic period while increasing prices on commercial volume during heightened volume levels.”
