Google to add YouTube shopping feature

No primary category set

According to reports from Bloomberg Google is planning to implement a YouTube shopping feature to their video platform with a vast catalog of items that viewers can peruse, click on and buy directly from a video.

YouTube have been getting content creators on the site to test their new software which will tag and track products featured in their clips and provide data that will then be linked to analytics and shopping tools from Google.

Since Coronavirus we’ve been seeing social media platforms utilizing their unique features to bring businesses online. Many businesses that are setting up their online presence are relying on live video and interactive experiences to sell in completely new ways. So what are YouTube doing for businesses? Well, We’ve seen Google making moves that hint towards their plans for YouTube’s ecommerce future including mention of the unused potential of their popular categories which include unboxing videos and tutorials that could become a shopping opportunity. They have still been holding back on this huge ever-growing market in comparison to a large number of companies already making advances and commitments in the world of online commerce but it looks like it might finally be YouTube’s time to shine.

Although a YouTube spokesperson has reportedly confirmed the testing of this software it is not yet known how YouTube shopping will make money. It will be interesting to see how merchants with YouTube channels will be able to implement the shop feature in the future and how it will positively impact their business.
