Ecommerce expert Optiseller want to help you get your data into shape before they come into force on the 22nd of February. A whole raft of New eBay mandatory item specifics in the home and garden, fashion, lifestyle and business and industrial categories are being rolled out.
“The increase in eBay mandatory item specifics will benefit both sellers and buyers on the platform. For buyers, the ability to search for products in a more structured and specific way enhances the customer experience across the marketplace. For sellers, the changes are designed to increase the search visibility of their listings, so they are easier to find on site.”
Item specifics will become increasingly important as they are core to eBay’s strategy of continually improving the buyer and seller experience. The more data sellers give eBay about what they are selling the better it can match what buyers are looking for on the platform. Buyers are increasingly using filters to drill down to the exact product they are looking for.”

Updating all listings to make sure they are compliant with the new mandates is a time-consuming process, especially if you have hundreds of thousands of items in your inventory. However, sellers can benefit from using the Optiseller Aspect Finder+ tool. This tool quickly identifies the listings that are missing item specifics which are currently required, soon to be required and recommended across all listings, in all categories. Apart from helping with mandate compliance Aspect Finder+ also optimises item specifics to boost search visibility, helping improve sales.
The Optiseller Aspect Finder+ tool is available free of charge to eBay sellers until the 30th of June 2021. Full details of how to access the tool are available on the Optiseller website.

At ChannelAdvisor, we’ve created some functionality for our clients to help identify those item specifics that are going to be required in the future and don’t currently have a configured value and associate them with the specific listings and products. We’re also making efforts to minimize the disruption when they do ultimately become required even if they are still missing a value, though it is always best to make sure item specifics have an accurate value and that if at all possible it matches one of the eBay-defined options.
