Councils across the nation have been launching on Click It Local, a virtual high street enabling local independent shops and retailers to compete with the likes of Amazon on convenience and choice.

Recently Brentwood Council have announced plans to launch their high street on the platform and last week Bishop’s Stotford, Waverly and Huntingdonshire did the same. Currently, they are onboarding businesses from Bishop’s Stortford, Brentwood, Brighton, Cambridge, Chelmsford, East London, Ely, Epping Forest, Huntingdonshire, Uttlesford and Waverly.

“Click it Local’s mission is to support the local high street and champion independents. It is important that consumers understand that there is a choice to shop locally rather than go to the usual bigger online businesses.”
– Steve Koch, Founder, Click it Local

A virtual high street

If you run a high street business and live in one of the mentioned places you can sign up for a storefront on the platform. If you’re a council, you might like to offer the heart of your local economy a virtual high street to call home.

Click it Local offer the following to businesses:

  • Set up a virtual storefront for free
  • Add unlimited products
  • Receive online payments within 7 days
  • Have orders collected from their shop and delivered to customers by Click It Local drivers at no extra cost to the business. A fee of £3 is charged to the buyer for one shop with an extra £1 added for each additional shop.

As the scheme is still fairly fresh with many towns having joined very recently some businesses will be able to benefit from 0% commission fees for a limited time.
