According to reports, online marketplace Shopee has launched in Spain, furthering their european expansion and giving Spanish sellers and consumers access to the platform. The news of Shopee’s newest expansion comes shortly after they entered another marketplace in Europe, Poland.
Shopee seems to be moving quickly into other markets, with the platform already operating in 13 countries in Asia, South America and Europe. Despite their growth, it is not yet clear how far Shopee will go and whether they will manage to get as big as Amazon. At the moment Shopee’s main source of profit comes from parent gaming company Sea. It’s not all that bad though, financially Shopee is seeing success from their third-party sellers who generated $15 billion in the second quarter of 2021 alone.
In a post on their Spanish Instagram account, Shopee announced that shipping throughout Spain would be free, without a minimum order price giving sellers a chance to reach new international audiences.
Who’s next?
With their most recent launches in Spain and Poland we might expect to see the platform continuing it’s European expansion however, we shouldn’t forget that Shopee could be planning to launch in India in the near future after Reuters spotted the company launching recruitment campaigns in the country. Although all news is based on rumours and fair deductions, as a dominant ecommerce player in Asia it wouldn’t be surprising to see them launch there.
