It was first announced that Instagram would be allowing all U.S. users to tag products in their feed posts back in March. A month later, we have official confirmation that the product tagging expansion is now live.
The announcement means that all users in the U.S. can tag products in their feed posts and support their favourite businesses and brands and help them reach more perspective customers on the platform by having their products displayed in a more noticeable way.
With 1.6 million people tagging brands in their posts each week, Instagram giving all U.S. users the ability to tag products in their posts will benefit businesses greatly. Sharing products and discovering brands will become even easier as consumers start sharing their favourite products to their followers who can then easily find and purchase those products.
Product Tagging guide
When creating a post, use the tagging feature to tag a brand then specify a product. When someone taps on your product tag on your published Feed post, they’ll be able to get detailed information about the product through a product detail page on Instagram and then can purchase the product directly in app or through the brand’s product detail page.
How to add a product tag:
- Start to create a post on Feed.
- Tap ‘Tag people’.
- Search and tag the brand first. 2 options should show up at the bottom labeled ‘People’ & ‘Products’.
- Tap ‘Products’.
- Tap photo to start tagging products. Use descriptors to find the product. Once you find the product, specify any styles and/or colors, then tap to add tag.
- Hit ‘share’ to publish the post!
Stories will be next!
According to Instagram, product tagging in Instagram stories is in the works, so brands can expect even more ways for customers to share their products in the future.
