In France, Amazon is legally obligated to check if you comply with your Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations by collecting valid unique identification numbers (UINs) for certain categories of products sold on Amazon.fr. Their Pay on Behalf will collect contributions and a service fee if you don’t register to pay direct.
Auto Pay on Behalf enrollment
Unless you provide Amazon with a valid UIN in the relevant EPR category by the 30th of June 2023, you will be automatically enrolled (or keep being enrolled) in Amazon’s Pay on Behalf service for the period from the 1st of April 2023 to the 30th of June 2023.
You will be charged service fees
As part of the Pay on Behalf service, Amazon submits declaration reports for your sales on Amazon.fr in each relevant category and pays the applicable eco-contribution fees to qualified Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs), and recovers these fees paid on your behalf. If applicable, Amazon charges service fees from your seller account.
The reporting cycle may be quarterly, semi-annual or annual, depending on the EPR category and the qualified PRO(s) selected by Amazon.
Amazon will charge a service fee of €24.99 + 3% of the eco-contribution fees paid on behalf of your sales in 2023 in each EPR category. This service fee is in addition to the eco-contribution fees that Amazon will pay on behalf of your sales, and it does not include VAT, if applicable.
The service will be offered free of charge in an EPR category for the calendar year of 2023 to sellers who sell a product for the first time on Amazon.fr in that category between the 1st of January 2023 and 31st of December 2023.
How to avoid Service Fees
To avoid paying Amazon service fees, you need to register to pay EPR yourself and then submit a valid UIN before the last day of the quarter in the category in which you want to stop using the service. You can submit your UIN here.
