Royal Mail have announced their new business prices for March 2024 and there are a couple of hidden price rises you’ll want to be aware of. On the 25th of March the Royal Mail green surcharge doubles from 2p an item to 4p an item and the charge for a weekday collection goes up from £870 to £955.
Royal Mail green surcharge is now just one of three surcharges that you’ll be paying on your business account. As well as doubling this surcharge from 2p to 4p per item, there is also the fuel surcharge (currently at 8% since July 2022) and the peak surcharge which kicks in from November to January adding an additional 10p (5p for smaller items) to your costs.

- 100g from £6.75 to £7.15
- 500g from £7.05 to £7.45
- 1kg from £8.15 to £8.55
- 2kg from £10.75 to £11.75
- 20kg from £14.95 to £15.95

Sounds more like a brown discharge
So it continues to be cheaper for a member of the public to buy a 2nd Class Letter stamp tor 75p than a Flat Rate VAT registered business with a Royal mail business account that still has to pay 79p. Will just be buying stamps now and will use a post box. Thanks Royal Mail for looking out for small businesses!
All the post boxes in our area (an area of SW London with a population of 130K) – are now marked as last collection of the day at 9:30 am!
