TikTok Notes, a new app for photo sharing, is coming soon. TikTok are informing users that soon their existing and future public photo TikTok posts will be shown on TikTok Notes, along with an option to opt out if users want to.
This is a direct swipe at Meta’s Instagram platform and one I’m all in favour of – while I enjoy browsing through TikTok, I’m largely there for video content and if static photo posts are corralled off into a seperate app it works for me… who knows, I might want to scroll through endless photos of cute cats, but that’s not what in the main I’m looking for on TikTok itself.
Instagram have tried to take on TikTok with Reels, but copycat social media doesn’t always work. But having said that there are enough small businesses on Instagram complaining their posts aren’t appearing highly in search with Reels and advertising coming first that they might just be tempted onto a new platform run by TikTok. The clever thing that TikTok are doing, is unlike Instagram that flooded users’ feeds with Reels, is the intention to launch a new App for TikTok Notes – if it’s a success, it should mean TikTok itself isn’t flooded with photo posts lowering the visibility of video.
There is no release date announced for when TikTok Notes will go live, but the landing page is already there with a download button for the new app… it’s just the download button isn’t linked yet so don’t go rushing today as they’re not quite ready yet.
