The focus of the new legal regulations for the manufacture and sale of electrical and electronic equipment is the product responsibility of sellers and manufacturers who place them on the market. This involves disposing of the product and its components. Sellers and manufacturers are therefore responsible for the entire life cycle of a product and its components, right through to recycling.
These regulations are the prerequisite for a functioning, efficient recycling economy in Germany. In concrete terms, this means that recyclable materials that have already been used can be reused or that something new can be created from them. And that saves immense amounts of greenhouse gases and raw materials and thus actively contributes to climate protection.
German WEEE Registration
Retailers who manufacture products in this category and sell them to consumers in Germany for the first time or import them into Germany must register with the Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register (EAR) in order to obtain a German WEEE number (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). to get. According to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act, this must be stated when the product is sold and on your invoices.
From the 1st of July, eBay listings in the electronics category without a German WEEE number will be hidden on eBay.de. As soon as the number has been added, the offer will be displayed again. This regulation only applies to sales to buyers in Germany – both by sellers who are resident in Germany and by those who live abroad.
The German WEEE number to be registered on eBay stands for the manufacturer number that is assigned to those who first place electrical and electronic devices on the market after successful registration with the EAR system. Valid WEEE numbers consist of a country code and an 8-digit sequence (e.g. DE 12345678).
