eBay local services gets a microsite makeover

No primary category set

In the few weeks since I last looked at Local Services the category has had a makeover and been spun out into a . No longer do users have to browse through thousands of local services many miles from where they live – the new microsite directs users to enter their postcode up front.

The Local Services category is now set to become an online yellow pages – every local business should be listed in the directory to take advantage of eBay’s 14 million users. Best of all so why wouldn’t you want your business listed on eBay?

I’m predicting that this will become a larger part of eBay’s business model in the future. eBay Australia also have a and have just announced it will move to a format.

If you offer a local service (as opposed to a product), which eBay users could be interested, in today.

  1. hmmm well the local bit is not working very well.

I live in North East London.

When I put my postcode in and searched for window cleaners, I got 8 available. One in Leicester, one in Chatham Kent, one in Eastbourne, one in Worcestershire, one in Somerset, one in Birmingham and Two (huh?) in Kinross Scotland.

I’ve heard of get on your bike to work, but with a large ladder as well???

  2. My brother is a window cleaner – I phoned him this morning and told him to get a classified ad up pronto!

He’s not in North London though – I’m expecting eBay to put some effort in to attract many more local businesses to advertise on local services – after all it is (currently) free 😀

  3. I don’t actually NEED a window cleaner Chris, but it really should have said “Nothing” if there wasn’t anything within a reasonable distance.

Since when is a Window Cleaner in Fife likely to want customers in London???
