Amazon have today announced the beta launch of a new site in the US – Amazon Wireless. The new web site offers a range of mobile cell phones and service plans, easy shopping without rebate hassles and free two day Shipping on a selection of phones from AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
According to Paul Ryder, vice president of Consumer Electronics for Amazon.com, they have “also eliminated the technical jargon and frustrating rebate paperwork that customers often face when buying a phone”, and that does appear to be the case.
I do like the buying options, the ability to choose price range (even handsets for a penny), and especially the simple click to select options to find phones by colour, as well as the more usual brand and feature choices. Currently tariffs are available from AT&T and Verizon with T-Mobile and Sprint to be added in the near future. They’ve also made it easy to select a new contract or to upgrade a handset on an existing contract.
Compared to other mobile phone web sites it’s easy to navigate and simple to make a purchase. If Amazon Wireless launches in the UK it’s sure to give the current mobile phone sites a run for their money.
