Skype shut down Extras program

No primary category set

Effective yesterday Skype shut down their Skype Extras programme. Skype Extras are add-ons developed to work with Skype by third party developers to add functionality not available in Skype itself.

Many Skype Extras were games, but others included call recorders, Outlook integration and other business tools.

Skype say that there were simply not enough people were using them to justify their continued support of the Extras programme. They do however still believe there are opportunities for third-party developers to enhance the Skype experience and all existing Extras will stay certified until their expiration dates.

I have to add I tested a couple of Skype Extras but never continued to use any. It’s not a programme I’ll personally miss – did anyone else out there use a Skype Extra on a regular basis?
