eBay’s shopping basket appears to be broken. I’ve been attempting to pay for three items from two different sellers and each time I confirm payment I’ve been hitting an eBay “speed bump”.
This is ultra frustrating as I’ve not actually been able to purchase the items, they’re not sold until the payment is confirmed. What’s even more frustrating is that there’s no way to reserve them or commit to buy within the shopping basket and pay later.
My solution was to add them to my watched item list, opt out of the shopping basket experience and then to buy them in the normal manner (and then I was able to pay for all the items in one go). I also tested making multiple purchases but from just one seller and again with the shopping basket the transaction failed, but having opted out of the shopping basket experience I was able to complete the purchase.
Once my purchases were bought and paid for I opted back into the shopping basket experience and the items were still in my shopping basket so I’ve clicked to remove them – there’s no point having items there that I’ve already bought. It’s a tad frustrating though and I’m sure casual sellers who’ve opted into the shopping basket experience are more likely to give up and either wait until later or simply not make their purchases at all.
A shopping basket is supposed to make life easier and, whilst I appreciate it’s still in Beta, having bugs like not letting customers actually make purchases isn’t a great situation to be in.
Updated to add: This bug has now been fixed and the Shopping Basket is working as it should again 🙂

Why am I not in the least bit surprised with eBay’s track record on site additions and modifications. Hate to say it (but I’m going to) I told you so. 🙂

To continue in a broken state will cause the site to make fewer sales to the total detriment of buyers, sellers and eBay.
Has anybody with a bad experience rung CS?
Worked for me. However, said there was a problem with paypal payment when I clicked pay (speed bump). When I checked in my ebay and paypal 2 mins later payment had actually cleared. This was on Thurs this week. So perhaps they are ironing out some of the bugs.

we have had many buyers saying they cant pay and non of them were using the shopping basket they were attempting to pay with a credit card
What worries me at the moment is that some of my listings are missing international shipping options that were there last week. I was presented with lots of messages from international buyers asking for postal prices. At least 5 lots sales on Saturday worth £350…and counting. Very frustrating.
