eBay acquire mobile tech company Critical Path Software

eBay have acquired Critical Path Software, a leading mobile application developer that has worked with eBay for more than two years to help deliver popular mobile apps for eBay platforms.

The applications developed in collaboratation with Critical Path Software include eBay’s most popular mobile app, the iPhone 2.0 eBay app, which has been downloaded by more than 14 million times since its launch in 2008 as well as mobile apps enabling users to buy tickets on-the-go on StubHub on the iPhone; search local listings for eBay Classifieds on the iPhone; and access more than 7,000 global merchants on Shopping.com again on the iPhone.

Critical Path Software was one of the first developers to create mobile experiences for the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7 platforms. Critical Path Software has helped create mobiles apps that are consistently the top apps in their respective categories, such as lifestyle, shopping, health and fitness and travel.

eBay are already leaders in m-commerce and expect to generate $1.5 billion in GMV through mobile commerce in 2010. By bring their chief mobile developers in-house it gives them the tools and skills that they need to remain at the forefront of shopping technology
