eBay ranked first for social media reputation

eBay have just come first in the Top 50 Brands in Social Media league table from Yomego.

eBay has always embraced social media ever since the introduction of community forums. They also have the eBay Ink Blog run by Richard Brewer-Hay as well as numerous other blogs, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Some initiatives have been successful although others such as the introduction of eBay blogs for site users and eBay To Go have been retired. Regardless eBay have always appeared keen to embrace social media even if they haven’t always got it right in the past. Their dilemma appears to be wanting distributed content shared on social media coupled with the ability to control the content.

Social commerce is the future of eBay according to John Donahoe, who recently said that social commerce is at the stage mobile commerce was about two years ago and that eBay plan to lead the way and own the social shopping space.

Hitting the top spot in the social media league tables might not immediately add many sales, but it demonstrates that eBay are best placed to take full advantage their social media following and start converting it into orders.
