Rather late last night, I received an email from eBay headlined “No insertion fees when you list on your mobile“.
Now I should have learnt by now, always scour the Ts and Cs when it comes to eBay. The devil is in the detail. But through bleary eyes I didn’t divine that the free listing offer was also available if you list normally. I posted about it and went to bed. Sorry if I mislead anyone.
Had I waited up another hour or so, another email would have arrived titled: “No insertion fees this weekend“. This came through on another User ID I hold. THis one had no room for misinterpretation. This weekend has a fairly standard free listing promotion.
So, basically, eBay want you to list on your mobile and your tablet, but you don’t have to. And I think it’s fair to say that they are quite happy to bamboozle a few people (the dazed, the dim, the half asleep like me) to boost the numbers on mobile listings. Once again, the tail is wagging the dog.

No, buyers are crying out for listings with no descriptions, it’s the future!
It makes a lot of sense for ebay to want to expand the number of ways that sellers can put their Free Listings on. However it makes no sense at all to exclude those many regular sellers who do not use such as mobile phones to list.
However ebay tend to have a Free Listing Weekend every 2 weeks. So if they wanted to be “creative” whats to stop them having a Normal Free Listing Weekend every other weekend and to fit in a Free Listing Weekend specifically for those who use Unconventional or High Tech methods to input the intervening weekend.
Obviously it could mean that those who use both methods could gain an advantage but it would allow ebay to perhaps attract additional sellers.
