eBay ban Kate Middleton topless Closer magazine sales

No primary category set

According to the Press Association, copies of French magazine Closer that feature photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, topless have been removed from eBay.

An eBay spokesperson said: “Following strong feedback from the eBay community, we will be removing these items, and are already in the process of doing so.”

As far as we can see, eBay hasn’t made a formal announcement on this particular policy change on either eBay.co.uk or eBay.com. We’ve kept an eye out over the course of Tuesday evening and we can’t see any of the magazines having been removed. (We monitored from 19:00 until after 01:00am Wednesday.) We also can’t really see much of a community outcry over the sale of these items.

A cursory look for copies of the Closer Magazine shows that plenty are still up for grabs. And there are also still copies of the Italian version of Closer, Chi, available for sale.

We asked eBay for further information on this new policy, the action they were taking and also for a full statement. As of time of publication, our eBay contacts haven’t replied to our request.

  1. eBay have only acted on a few listings – they have not banned the listing and sale of these magazines. As long as sellers don’t show the magazine picture, eBay are allowing the listings to stay. So they are being blatantly dishonest about their claims just to make themselves look good and ensure they cover their backs. Not surprised though.

It’s a question of respect – eBay have no more than the parasitic pimps who’ve taken and published the photos who feed off abusing others as if they are objects for their use.

Don’t expect you to print this, but all who say it’s ok to treat anyone in this manner will have no cause to complain when their privacy is invaded more and more.

  2. I love the new one day listings with the description:

“eBay seem to be taking my listings down but its a brand new copy of France closer magazine with Kate”

Wonder how long it’ll take before they get the message?
