Magento GO goes, ProStores also shut down

ProStoresMagento Go FeateBay are shuttering both Magento GO and ProStores as of February 2015. Neither solution is now open for new merchants to sign up to.

On both sites eBay posted very similar messages:
We’ve made the difficult decision to shut down Magento Go/ProStores on February 1, 2015. Your store will not be affected during the Holiday shopping season – it will continue to operate and perform normally, and Magento Go/ProStores will continue to provide customer service until February 1, 2015.

Over the past five/16 years we’ve had the opportunity to work with thousands of merchants and have been humbled to be a part of so many success stories. Going forward, we’re focusing our resources on Magento Enterprise Edition and Magento Community Edition, two solutions that better support and better equip small and medium size merchants to prosper in the evolving and increasingly competitive eCommerce landscape.

Please be sure to take advantage of the checklists, planning resources and special offers found in the Migration Center to help smooth your transition to a new eCommerce solution“.

Bigcommerce

BigcommerceeBay’s recommendation to use Magento Enterprise Edition and Magento Community Edition is fine for larger merchants, but for smaller retailers Bigcommerce have been chosen as Magento’s exclusive migration provider offering to “quickly relaunch your store with free migration and an exclusive offer of up to $900 in free and discounted services”.

If you’re a ProStores or Magento Go customer I’m not so sure that you should wait until after Christmas to migrate to a new platform. It’s still early enough in the year to get the migration done and be up and running on Bigcommerce or an alternative.

One thing is for sure however, this is going to be a right pain in the neck for an estimated 10,000 retailers whose businesses currently rely on the two doomed platforms.

  1. Somewhat expected given the almost complete neglect of the Magento Go platform and applications it could use compared to the Enterprise & Community editions.
Any bets now on how long it will take eBay to start charging you for the use of M2EPro application with a Magento website?

  2. So glad my clients opted for the CE version. In the middle of a project now!

    But 8 months notice? Blimey.
