Whilst we know that the majority of professional sellers will already have a courier contract, it’s worth noting that Parcelforce have new rates available for all sellers casual or businesses, through aff_link("https://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/ebay-postage-discounts","eBay Postage","","UK"); ?>.
Previously there was a set rate, but the new offering gives a discount against the old rates for lighter items, although costs have risen slightly for heavier packages.

Of course you may well be able to negotiate better rates if you wish a direct contract with Parcelforce and open an account. However we know that even sellers who’s products are light enough to regularly use mail services occasionally have the odd heavier item to send or an over sized package, in which case eBay Postage may be the easiest way to access Parcelforce services.

Using brokerage sites like Parcel2go or Parcelmonkey can beat these prices most serious sellers shop around this may work for the odd private seller who uses the post office.
Don’t forget that those rates are to drop off and don’t include collection. Plus you are supposed to drop off next day, not the same day.
Our contract is 50% cheaper than those with the exception of Highlands & Islands/NI, where these fall into Zone 2 & 3, for which we get heavily surcharged & eBay now becomes cheaper than our contract prices for those areas
Surely Hermes is cheaper overall. Packages are tracked and prices include VAT which can be reclaimed. PLUS, you don’t have to perform a song and dance if anything goes wrong.
A little off topic, but I agree with PayPalUser – the myhermes claim form is simple and effective.
Can somebody tell me if Royal Mail still use that out of date lost item compensation form? That you need to handwrite and provide receipts and all the other wasteful amounts of paper?
I haven’t claimed from Royal Mail in years, due to the process, if its changed can somebody let me know?
