This weekend the papers were up in arms about Amazon only making Pampers and Huggies brands of babies nappies available to Amazon Prime subscribers.
Naturally it wasn’t too hard to find users complaining about this, but then as Amazon pointed out other brands are available as are the Pampers and Huggies brands from marketplace sellers (albeit at a premium price).
I’m guessing that the reason Amazon want some exclusivity for Prime members is to promote Amazon Family, which as well as the normal Prime benefits also offers “20% off nappy subscriptions with Subscribe and Save” as well as “Exclusive discounts and offers”. It’s hard to offer an exclusive discount and offer if it’s then available to non-Prime members.
Seeing the outpouring of rage at Amazon daring to offer an exclusive discount to Prime members, I can sympathise with why they don’t offer nappies at a higher price to mums and dads who don’t have Prime – that really would set the fires alight.
Prime is a bit of a bargain at £79 per year, but families who don’t wish to subscribe only need to remember that Supermarkets normally delivery and sell the same products, as do many other retailers around the country. Amazon’s an option and if they see fit to offer a discount why shouldn’t they? After all how many of us wouldn’t offer a bit of a discount to loyal customers or friends and family?
It’s fair to say that if you want to convert your Prime membership to Amazon Family you’ll have to divulge a little information – After all how else could they fill your inbox with tempting timely offers as your child grows?
