There are four big countries when it comes to shopping from the UK online. And it won’t be a surprise that they are China, USA, France and Germany. And PayPal has been surveying their buying habits.
The most interesting insight is that 83% of Chinese shoppers buying British are using mobile. It’s also worth noting that 47% of Chinese shoppers say they access foreign shops that they have successfully shopped from before. They’re willing to be loyal so it’s worth making that buying experience successful first time around.
But why do overseas shoppers buy from Britain? We sell good stuff. They like variety, quality and authenticity.
PayPal UK MD Cameron McLean says: “There are clear lessons for British businesses that want to boost their online international sales. Your customers expect to shop on websites in their own language and want to pay in their own currencies – and may buy from your rivals if you don’t offer that experience. And if you want to crack the Chinese market, you really need to engage with your customers through hugely popular Chinese social media and messaging channels such as WeChat.“
