The £7.20 Minimum Wage is coming in April

No primary category set

Many of you will employ people in your ecommerce operations, so it’s worth noting that the new, higher minimum wage will be coming in to force on 1st April. No joke.

Here’s the deal: from April 1st 2016 every employee over 25 (who isn’t in the first year of an apprenticeship) must be paid £7.20. The Government is billing it as the “national living wage”. And here’s a little video about the change.

You can check out the Government’s dedicated website about the changes here.

It’s basically a 50p an hour raise for employees and obviously that’s great news for staff. But equally it does represent a pressure on small businesses.

How do you feel about the new minimum wage and will you be changing your activities as a result of its introduction in the next few months?

which is less than the Living Wage Foundation’s rate (https://www.livingwage.org.uk/).

How many hours a member of staff gets will also be important 20 hours at a ‘living wage’ will be worth more than 10 hours at minimum wage.

Bad zero (or limited) hour contracts are just as bad.
