eBay and Alibaba bid for Allegro

allegroFollowing on from the news that Polish marketplace Allegro is up for sale, it’s not surprise that eBay are interested in acquiring the largest marketplace in Poland.

Allegro accounts for more than 50% of the Polish ecommerce market and has 14 million registered users so it’s a prize worth snagging and it’s not only Poland but the surrounding countries it also opens up access to.

eBay aren’t alone in eyeing up the sale by Africa conglomerate Naspers who currently own the Allegro, Reuters say that Alibaba are also interested as are private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.

Allegro is one of the most vibrant marketplaces in the EU, certainly the most attractive single country site marketplace up for sale. One to watch and if you’re not already selling on Allegro now would be a good time to consider doing so.
